How to Connect WhatsApp to SuperSocial MCP

Step-by-step guide to connect WhatsApp to SuperSocial MCP so your AI assistant can read, send, and manage WhatsApp messages automatically.

Why Connect WhatsApp to AI?

WhatsApp is one of the most widely used messaging platforms in the world, and chances are a significant chunk of your professional and personal conversations happen there. By connecting WhatsApp to SuperSocial MCP, you give your AI assistant the ability to read incoming messages, send replies, manage group chats, react to messages, and even handle attachments like images, documents, and voice notes.

Think of it as giving your AI a seat at the table for every WhatsApp conversation you have. Whether you want AI-powered customer support, automated follow-ups, or simply a morning briefing of unread messages across all your platforms, connecting WhatsApp is the first step.

Prerequisites

  • A SuperSocial MCP account — sign up at app.getsupersocial.me/login if you haven't already. The free trial gives you 24 hours with one connected account, no credit card required.
  • A WhatsApp account on your phone (regular WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business both work).
  • Your phone needs to be connected to the internet while the connection is active. This is a WhatsApp Web requirement — your phone acts as the bridge between WhatsApp's servers and SuperSocial.

Step-by-Step: Connect WhatsApp

Step 1: Log In to the Dashboard

Open app.getsupersocial.me/login in your browser and sign in to your SuperSocial account. Once logged in, you will land on the dashboard where you can manage all your connected messaging accounts.

Step 2: Add a New Account

Click the "Add Account" button on your dashboard. You will see a list of supported platforms including LinkedIn, WhatsApp, Instagram, Telegram, and Email. Select WhatsApp from the list.

Step 3: Scan the QR Code

After selecting WhatsApp, a QR code will appear on your screen. This works exactly like pairing a new device with WhatsApp Web. Here is how to scan it:

  1. Open WhatsApp on your phone.
  2. Go to Settings (or tap the three-dot menu on Android).
  3. Tap "Linked Devices".
  4. Tap "Link a Device".
  5. Point your phone's camera at the QR code shown on the SuperSocial dashboard.

The QR code will be scanned in a second or two. Your phone may ask you to confirm with biometric authentication (fingerprint or face unlock) before completing the link.

Step 4: Wait for Sync

Once the QR code is scanned, SuperSocial will begin syncing your WhatsApp data. This usually takes just a few seconds. You will see the account appear on your dashboard with a connected status. Your recent chats and messages will start populating automatically.

Step 5: Start Using WhatsApp with AI

That is it. Your WhatsApp account is now connected. Any MCP-compatible AI client (Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Gemini CLI, and others) that is configured with your SuperSocial MCP server can now interact with your WhatsApp messages.

What Your AI Can Do with WhatsApp

Once connected, your AI assistant has access to a full set of WhatsApp messaging tools through the MCP protocol:

  • List chats — Browse all your WhatsApp conversations, including individual and group chats, with the list_chats tool.
  • Read messages — Retrieve full conversation history from any chat using get_conversation.
  • Send messages — Reply to any chat or start new conversations with send_message.
  • React to messages — Add emoji reactions to specific messages using react_to_message.
  • Search contacts — Find people in your WhatsApp contact list with search_contacts.
  • Handle attachments — Download and view images, documents, and voice messages sent to you via get_message_attachment.
  • Send attachments — Share images, PDFs, documents, and voice notes through your AI.

Real-Time Message Delivery

SuperSocial uses webhooks to receive new WhatsApp messages in near real-time. When someone sends you a message on WhatsApp, it appears in SuperSocial within seconds. This means your AI assistant can respond promptly to incoming messages without waiting for a manual sync or polling interval.

Important: Keep Your Phone Online

WhatsApp requires your phone to maintain an active internet connection for linked devices to work. If your phone goes offline for an extended period, the WhatsApp connection may be dropped and you will need to re-scan the QR code. This is a WhatsApp platform limitation, not a SuperSocial one.

For the most reliable experience, make sure your phone stays connected to Wi-Fi or mobile data. If you notice your WhatsApp connection has disconnected on the dashboard, simply repeat the QR code scanning process to re-establish it.

Supported Features

  • Individual chats — one-on-one conversations with any contact.
  • Group chats — read and send messages in WhatsApp groups.
  • Voice messages — receive and send voice notes.
  • Image and document attachments — full support for files shared in chats.
  • Emoji reactions — react to any message with any emoji.

Troubleshooting

QR code expired

QR codes expire after a short time for security reasons. If the code expires before you scan it, click "Refresh" or restart the connection flow to generate a new one.

Connection dropped

If your phone was offline or WhatsApp was updated, the linked device session may have ended. Go to your SuperSocial dashboard, remove the disconnected account, and add it again by scanning a fresh QR code.

"Linked Devices" not showing

Make sure you are running an up-to-date version of WhatsApp. The linked devices feature requires a relatively recent version of the app. Update WhatsApp from the App Store or Google Play and try again.

Next Steps

With WhatsApp connected, you can ask your AI assistant to do things like:

  • "Summarize my unread WhatsApp messages from today."
  • "Reply to the last message from Sarah with: sounds good, let's meet at 3pm."
  • "Find all WhatsApp messages from the marketing group about the launch date."
  • "Send a voice note to the sales team group."

If you have not set up an AI client yet, check our guides for Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, or Gemini CLI to get your MCP connection configured.
